Epilepsy Do’s & Don’ts

Witnessing a Seizure?

Stay calm and act wisely with these do's & don'ts2,3

Do's

  • Cushion their head if they are on the ground
  • Loosen tight clothing
  • Talk to them calmly until they recover
  • Note seizure start and finish time
  • Turn them on their side after the seizure stops
  • Call an ambulance if the seizure lasts for >5 minutes or has difficulty breathing after the seizure

Don'ts

  • Do not panic
  • Avoid moving them unless they are in danger
  • Do not put anything in their mouth
  • Avoid crowding
  • Do not hold them down
  • Do not try to stop seizure movements
